Description

Woods, Fuller, Shultz & Smith P.C. is seeking a talented and motivated Litigation Associate to join our Sioux Falls office. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who is looking to build a meaningful litigation practice while working alongside experienced attorneys in a collaborative, full-service law firm.


Our associates are given substantive responsibility, meaningful client interaction, and opportunities to develop practical legal skills early in their careers. The ideal candidate will be a strong writer and communicator who is analytical, detail-oriented, and eager to take an active role in representing clients.


Responsibilities

The Litigation Associate will have the opportunity to work on a broad range of matters and will be responsible for, among other things:

  • Meeting and communicating directly with clients to understand their legal needs and develop effective strategies.
  • Conducting legal research and analysis and preparing written work product.
  • Drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, correspondence, agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Assisting with all stages of litigation, including case development, discovery, motion practice, negotiations, and trial preparation.
  • Representing clients in negotiations and other proceedings as appropriate.
  • Managing assigned matters and deadlines with appropriate guidance and supervision.
  • Preparing and completing court filings and other legal documents.
  • Collaborating with attorneys and professional staff across practice areas to develop practical and effective solutions for clients.
  • Developing and maintaining strong professional relationships with clients, attorneys, courts, and other professionals.
Requirements

  

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to, or eligibility for admission to, the South Dakota Bar.
  • Strong academic credentials; candidates graduating in the top 33% of their law school class are preferred.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and competing deadlines effectively.
  • Demonstrated interest in litigation and dispute resolution.
  • A professional, collaborative approach and a commitment to providing exceptional client service.

Compensation: Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
