Conflicts Counsel (Multiple Offices)
Sheppard, a global Am Law 50 firm, has an opening for a Conflicts Counsel in our Century City, Del Mar, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego (Downtown), San Francisco, or Silicon Valley office. There is only one opening.
The Conflicts Counsel is a member of Sheppard’s Office of the General Counsel. This role works under the direction of the Director of Conflicts. The primary focus of the Conflicts Counsel is to review, analyze, and resolve conflicts of interest and support the intake function, including drafting waivers, reviewing engagement letters, and implementing outside counsel guidelines. The successful candidate will be meticulous, intellectually curious, have good knowledge of conflict rules, effective people skills and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions
Review, analyze, and resolve conflicts of interest arising from new matters, new clients, and lateral hires, including coordination with firm attorneys as needed.
Support the intake process by ensuring submissions are complete and accurate and by preparing or reviewing related documentation (e.g., waivers, engagement letters, and outside counsel guidelines).
Respond to attorney and staff inquiries regarding conflicts, waivers, intake policies and procedures, and related professional responsibility issues.
Liaise with firm attorneys to identify business conflicts and take necessary steps to document and resolve those conflicts.
Required Qualifications
3+ years of conflicts analysis experience required. Be meticulous, intellectually curious, have good knowledge of conflict rules, effective people skills and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Education
Required: Juris Doctor
Computer/Software Knowledge
Required: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Work Environment
Working indoors with limited exposure to hazards (only those that customarily come up in working in a high-rise or office building).
Indoor office work environment.
You will be based in one of our local Sheppard offices but will be allowed to work from home.
You are required to come into the office on an as-needed basis.
After hours and weekend work will be required on occasion as the workload requires.
Travel Requirements
Possibly up to 10%.
California: The salary range for this position is $190,000 - $210,000 per year.
