Position Summary
BrownWinick is seeking a motivated and talented Litigation Associate Attorney with 2+ years of litigation experience preferred to join our growing Litigation Practice Group in Des Moines, Iowa. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced attorneys on a broad range of complex commercial, business, employment, construction, and other civil litigation matters.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, writing, and advocacy skills, demonstrate sound judgment, and thrive in a collaborative, client-focused environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and support all phases of litigation, from case inception through trial and appeal.
- Conduct legal research and analysis on complex legal issues.
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and other legal documents.
- Participate in fact investigations, witness interviews, and case strategy development.
- Attend court hearings, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and court personnel.
- Review, analyze, and manage document production and discovery.
- Assist with business development and client relationship initiatives.
- Collaborate with attorneys across various practice groups to provide comprehensive legal solutions.
Qualifications
Required
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Iowa State Bar or ability to obtain admission promptly.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to providing exceptional client service.
Preferred
- Two (2) or more years of civil litigation experience in a law firm setting.
- Experience drafting dispositive motions and managing discovery.
- Deposition, hearing, mediation, or trial experience.
- Experience with commercial, business, employment, or construction litigation matters.
