About the Role

The OGC Lawyer - Compliance (Regulatory) is an integral part of Latham’s Office of the General Counsel team. This role will be responsible for the legal and compliance review of contracts, outside counsel guidelines, client, vendor, and banking questionnaires, and other documents relating to the firm's compliance and regulatory obligations, while identifying, assessing, and mitigating regulatory compliance risks, negotiating appropriate contractual positions with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders, and escalating novel or complex issues as needed. This role will be located in either our New York, Boston , or Washington, D.C. office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct legal and compliance reviews of vendor contracts, outside counsel guidelines, and other terms of engagement with firm clients, as well as client, vendor, and banking questionnaires, within the regulatory compliance purview with a focus on sanctions, export controls, anti-bribery and anti-corruption (ABAC), anti-money laundering (AML), DAC6, UK Criminal Finances Act, and related regulatory requirements
  • Triaging and prioritizing review requests, coordinate reviewer workflows, and ensuring timely, high-quality completion of reviews
  • Supporting vendor risk regulatory compliance contracting initiatives for local counsel agreements
  • Developing and maintaining compliance review protocols, templates, standard responses, guidance, and preferred positions to promote consistency, efficiency, and regulatory compliance
  • Providing subject-matter expertise and guidance to stakeholders on compliance requirements relating to sanctions, export controls, ABAC, AML, DAC6, UK Criminal Finances Act, and other applicable laws and regulations
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains

  • Possess the ability to work in a team environment

And have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • A law degree from an accredited law school
  • Current licensed to practice in a U.S. state; a qualified lawyer
  • Admitted in the jurisdiction in which their Latham office is located
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience practicing law on a regulatory compliance team in a global law firm or financial institution
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience managing global compliance projects in a large law firm or financial institution setting, preferably
