We are a vibrant, busy, and growing full-service law firm and looking to increase its talented ranks of Attorneys by adding an Associate Attorney with 2-4 years of experience to join our growing Medical Malpractice Defense Department. Our partners are highly recognized advocates who have excelled in defending individuals and institutions in some of the most challenging venues.
Position Overview: As an Associate Attorney in our Medical Malpractice Defense Department, you will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to defending our clients in complex litigation cases. You will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced partners and develop your skills in all aspects of medical malpractice defense.
Successful Candidate: A self-starter with a strong work ethic and organizational skills are essential for this position. Must have good oral communication skills and ability to communicate and be personable with clients, court staff, adversaries, witnesses; and must be a true team player genuinely interested in working in a supportive, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and draft legal documents including motions, briefs, and pleadings.
- Handle all aspects of discovery, including conducting and defending depositions.
- Ability to travel to multiple venues, including all NYC venues, Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and Rockland, Orange, and Westchester Counties.
- Review medical records and other relevant documents to prepare cases for trial.
- Assist with trial preparation and participate in court proceedings as necessary.
- Maintain communication with clients, court personnel, and opposing counsel throughout the litigation process.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor degree (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in New York.
- 2-4 years of medical malpractice litigation defense experience, including depositions and discovery, motion practice, records review, and trial prep.
- Admission in New Jersey is a plus.
- Proficient in online research, electronic billing codes, and medical records review.
- Excellent writing skills, organization, and multitasking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and prioritize work tasks in an effective manner.
- Comfortable working with all levels of business professionals, including senior management and all colleagues at other departments in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Outlook.
