The Knowledge Management Lawyer (KML) - Tax is responsible for helping to develop the Tax Practice Group’s knowledge strategy and implementing projects to meet the Practice Group’s knowledge needs. The KML will leverage their legal expertise, knowledge management best practices, and advanced technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered tools and solutions. These tools will enable the KML to enhance knowledge capture, improve efficiency, clarity, and speed of execution in the advice provided by the Tax Practice Group across the Firm’s private equity and other fundraising, M&A deals, real estate investments, capital markets offerings, and other matters.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Knowledge Strategy 

  • Collaborate with the Knowledge & Innovation Department and practice group attorneys to develop and implement solutions and best practices to increase effectiveness and efficiency in the Tax Practice Group

  • Collaborate with the Applied Analytics and Practice Solutions teams to evaluate and pilot legal technology, artificial intelligence applications, and client-facing applications that enhance the delivery of legal services   

Thought Leadership 

  • Monitor and inform the Tax Practice Group of key legal and market developments of interest to the Practice Group and its clients

  • Write and publish client alerts and articles on such developments, as well as conduct research on legal developments or new areas of law relevant to the Group 

Knowledge Resources & Practice Intelligence 

  • Develop and maintain practice resources, including precedents, templates, guides and other “know-how” materials and ensure resources are readily accessible on the Firm’s intranet and other content sharing platforms

  • Identify and implement processes for capturing relevant business and matter data in the Firm’s experience management database

  • Design and maintain visual reports and dashboards that surface insights into business and matter data for internal audiences and client presentations  

AI Engagement and Support 

  • Stay abreast of emerging legal technology trends and tools that can improve operational efficiency and client service 

  • Identify and validate pain points and map them to viable AI-driven use cases, particularly where AI support could improve efficiency, clarity or speed of execution 

  • Assist the Tax Practice Group in adopting AI-enabled workflows through proactive outreach and hands-on support  

  • Serve as a resource for Tax attorneys seeking AI solution support, assisting with tool selection and prompt design and refinement

  • Collaborate with the Practice Solutions and Applied Analytics teams to develop and deliver presentations and training programs on innovative and practical applications of AI and other practice technologies 

Client Development & Engagement 

  • Assist attorneys and Client Development & Engagement in preparation of RFP responses, pitch-books and relevant materials for business development and client engagement 

  • Monitor and disseminate information relating to client preferences and compliance protocols and ensure that client specific information is disseminated to attorneys 

Training & Mentorship 

  • Collaborate with practice group attorneys and the Legal Training and Development team to identify practice-related training needs; assist in the creation of materials for group trainings and CLE programs  

  • Mentor associates by providing them with best practices and assisting them in locating practice-related knowledge resources and documents 

  • Be a source of legal, market, and practical expertise for all members of the Tax Practice Group  

Collaboration 

  • Collaborate and coordinate with other professional staff and departments of the Firm to improve content, procedures and communications to ensure seamless support for the Tax Practice Group  

  • Provide other knowledge support to the practice group as may be assigned by the Tax Practice Group Co-Chairs, Chief Knowledge & Innovation Officer, Knowledge Management Director or Senior KML

Education  

  • J.D. or equivalent  

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of five years of Tax experience in a large law firm 

  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legal practices and documents 

  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal 

  • Self-starter and highly motivated 

  • Strong customer service skills and prompt response time to incoming requests 

  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills 

  • Ability to solve problems, both for technical issues and in situations involving collaboration with attorneys and non-legal staff/departments

  • Demonstrated good business judgment and analytical skills

  • Prior publication experience (e.g., law firm client alerts) a plus

Salary Information

NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $250,000 to $300,000 at the time of posting.

The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
