Shumaker is seeking a Conflicts Attorney to join our Conflicts & Business Intake team. This is a non-partnership legal position with no billable hour requirement. The Conflicts Attorney will be primarily responsible for independently identifying, analyzing, and clearing ethical conflicts and related business relationship concerns associated with the intake of new clients, new matters, and lateral hires. They will work closely with Shumaker attorneys to implement screening requirements, obtain waivers and answer other conflicts inquiries as required.
The Conflicts Attorney will also review and assist in drafting engagement documents, conflict waivers, and assess risks in connection with client outside counsel guidelines to resolve any conflicts.
This position reports and is responsible to the Deputy General Counsel and will work closely with Conflict Counsel, Chief Administrative Officer, and the Conflicts & Business Intake Manager.
Where You’ll Work
We are flexible as to location and open to this position being in an office, hybrid, or fully remote.
What You’ll Do
  • Review and analyze conflicts reports for all new business, informational requests, and changes in current matters that arise.
  • Review conflicts reports and analyses produced by the Conflicts & Business Intake for accuracy and completeness. Identify potential ethical and new business conflicts and clear as appropriate.
  • Be the point of contact interfacing with billing attorneys regarding conflict clearance.
  • Draft engagement documents and waiver letters, as needed.
  • Manage ethical screens and information walls.
  • Manage database integrity efforts to ensure data is current and accurate.
  • Research Model Rules of Professional Conduct as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
  • A Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school is required
  • Active admission to practice, in good standing, with any state bar
  • A minimum of two years of conflicts or related ethical experience preferred, with thorough knowledge of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct
  • Demonstrated ability to research potential conflicts thoroughly and apply strong analytical and deductive reasoning to reach conclusions
  • Strong technology skills required; Intapp and 3E experience preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Impeccable judgment and integrity with the ability to preserve confidentiality and exercise discretion
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work harmoniously and effectively with clients, attorneys, paralegals and other staff members
  • Able to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and priorities, often in a fast-paced environment

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $100,000-$120,000. Exact compensation will be based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate.

Physical Requirements
Sitting frequently, approximately six out of eight hours per day. Sitting position static for up to one-half hour at a time.
